Hot Flash Annoyances Due To Menopause

by John Faletti

Chances are your mother has told you a little about going the the change of life. She most likely told you that menopause symptoms - hot flashes in particular - can last many years but did she tell you that some of them never go away? Although most women never experience this, there are some that are plagued with some of the symptoms for the rest of their life.

The most common symptoms of this transition are hot flashes and night sweat but they are not, by far, limited to these. Insomnia is a very difficult problems to deal with during this period of time. In some cases this is one of the lasting symptoms that requires medication to control. Many times this requires you to remain on the medicine the rest of your life.

Some women suffer through the indications of this change for only a short time while others must learn to live with them. There are ways to ease some indications in the form of both prescription and non-prescription medications. Prescriptions are usually a last resort for most doctors. They normally recommend over-the-counter remedies which are usually enough to help ease the symptoms.

Vaginal dryness is one indication that you are going through this transition. You may notice itching that is not relieved regardless of what is used. Many women think this is a yeast infection and contact their doctor for a prescription to cure it. Upon examination, the doctor informs them that it is not an infection but a dry vaginal tract. In these cases many women find that sexual activity becomes very uncomfortable and many times painful.

Some symptoms are simply annoying such as fatigue, anxiety, bloating, night sweats and hot flashes. These are usually short lived and do not need medicines. More serious indications like disorientation, memory loss, mood swings and incontinence may require the aid of a prescription to ease. Every woman tends to experience different degrees of severity with these symptoms. If yours becomes too bothersome, you should talk to your doctor about them.

One alternative for you and your doctor to consider is the replacement of hormones that your body is lacking. Most hormone replacement therapy if frowned upon by the medical community due to the risks they hold. The hormones that are used are generally synthetic and are not perfect matches for what your body manufactures naturally. For this reason, this is usually the last resort as treatment.

Even though not all women experience the same symptoms, the fact remains that they will experience like symptoms throughout the transition period. They may come and go from time to time and some may even disappear altogether. If after the transitional period any symptoms remain, it is pretty safe to say that they will never go away.

Every woman in the world experiences some of the same menopause symptoms - hot flashes, night sweats and other annoying sensations. It is up to you and your doctor as to what course of treatment is best for you. Some may suggest HRT while others recommend a less risky method of treatment such as natural remedies. So if you experience symptoms of menopause contact your doctor and discuss a treatment that both of you can live with.
